Free Data Handling 01 Practice Test - 7th grade

Question 1

In the following table, the number of villains caught by BATMAN and SUPERMAN during a week is given. Whose daily average is more and how much is it?

A.

BATMAN, 2

B.

SUPERMAN, 2

C.

BATMAN, 3

D.

SUPERMAN, 3

SOLUTION

Solution : C

Average=Sum of all observationsTotal number of observations

Here, for both the cases, the total number of observations is the same and it is 7.

Average number of villians  caught by Batman  per day = 2+5+4+1+3+2+47 = 217 = 3.

Average number of villians  caught by Superman per day = 3+4+2+2+1+2+07147 = 2.

So, BATMAN's average is higher and it is 3.

Question 2

Find the mode of the following data set.

1          2          6          9          5          9          4          18        14        2          8          11        7

A.

2

B.

4

C.

2 and 9

D.

18

SOLUTION

Solution : C

Mode is the observation that occurs the most number of times. Here, 2 and 9 both occur two times. Therefore, they both are modes of the data.

Question 3

The double bar graph given below gives the number of men and women visiting a sports complex during last week. Can you spot the day when the number of men was equal to the number of women?

A.

Thursday

B.

Friday

C.

Sunday

D.

Monday

SOLUTION

Solution : A

The heights of the bars that are drawn side by side in the above double bar graph, correspond to the number of men and the number of women who visit the sports complex on each day of the week.
The heights of both the bars are equal on Thursday. So, on Thursday, the numbers of men and women who visited the complex are equal.

Question 4

The following bar graph gives the marks scored by 3 students, Shubh, Aman and Anurag out of 100. Whose average score is highest in all the 3 subjects?

A.

Shubh

B.

Aman

C.

Anurag

D.

All of them will have have same average.

SOLUTION

Solution : D

This is the observation from the bar graph.

Shubh’s total = 85+75+95 = 255

Aman’s total = 85 + 95 + 75 = 255

Anurag’s total = 90 + 80 + 85 = 255

Since total marks are same for all the three, average will be same too. So, there is nobody with the highest average.

Question 5

Find the median of the following data set.

12        65        3          8          23        64        19        53        0          24        57        15        39

A. 19
B. 23
C. 24
D. 39

SOLUTION

Solution : B

After arranging the data in ascending order, we get:

0,   3,   8,  12,  15,  19,   23,   24,   39,    53,  57,  64,  65.

Here, n = 13 = Odd
Median=(n+1)2 th observation

              =(13+1)2
              =7th observation
              =23

Therefore,  median of the given data is 23.

Question 6

You have a 8 faced die having numbers from 1 to 8 on its 8 faces. What would be the probability of getting 8 on throwing it?

A.

16

B.

13

C.

18

D.

12

SOLUTION

Solution : C

If there are 6 faces, the probability of getting one of 6 digits is 16. So, in the case of 8 faces, probability of getting any of the 8 numbers must be 18Hence, the probability of getting 8 on throwing it is 18.

Question 7

Find the difference between the mean and range of the following data set.
12,  86,  45,  78,  23,  56

A. 24
B. 50
C. 0
D. 74

SOLUTION

Solution : A

Mean=Sum of all observationsNumber of observations

=12+86+45+78+23+566

=3006

= 50.

Range = Highest observation - Lowest observation
           = 86 - 12
           = 74

Difference between the mean and range  = 74 - 50 = 24

Question 8

In order to analyse and interpret a data set, we should _________ it first.

A.

organise

B.

remove

C.

find

D.

visualize

SOLUTION

Solution : A

Organised data is easier to analyse and interpret. In data handling, the data is arranged either in ascending or descending order to easily find out the required data from the data set.

Question 9

What is the range for the following data set?

50        50        50        50        50

___

SOLUTION

Solution :

Range is the difference between the observation having the maximum value and the observation having the minimum value.

In the above case, all the observations are same. So, the range is 50 - 50 = 0.

Question 10

If you toss a fair coin 100 times, will you always get Head more number of times than you will get Tail?

A.

True

B.

False

SOLUTION

Solution : B

The probability of getting head and tail is same i.e. 12 . But we can't be sure anyway that we will get head for a certain number of times and tail for a certain number of times.
