Right Answer is: B

SOLUTION

Explanation:

There are two types of processes used for making stainless steel:

1. Triplex process:

  • It consists of three main production facilities, namely, the acid Bessemer converter, basic open-hearth furnace and acid open-hearth furnace.
  • This process could meet the demand for acid steel with extraordinary success.
  • But as the demand for this acid steels decreases, this process is abandoned in 1951 and a new process which is known as the duplex process is used for steel making.

2. Duplex process:

  • It consists of blowing hot metal and scrap in acid Bessemer conveners and subsequently refining them in the basic open-hearth furnace.
  • The point of modification was to use scrap along with the hot metal.
  • The major advantage of this process is to shorten the production time by the use of acid Bessemer converter and to increase productivity by dephosphorisation at the basic open-hearth furnace.
