SOLUTION

A baby chick hatches out of an egg laid by a hen. The development of chicken’s embryo takes place inside the female body. This type of fertilisation is known as internal fertilisation. The male and female gamete fuses inside the female body to form a zygote. The zygote then divides repeatedly and moves down to fallopian tube to form an embryo. During development, the embryo forms several protective layers around it. As a result, a white colour hard shell is formed around the developing embryo. After this, the hen lays a fertilised egg. The hen then sits on the eggs to provide sufficient warmth to the egg for the development of the embryo into the chicks. The embryo takes about 3 weeks to develop into a complete chick. The development of the chicks from egg takes place inside the hen's egg during this period.
