SOLUTION
- Human respiratory system consists of respiratory tract and respiratory organs.
- Respiratory tract consists of nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea and the primary bronchi. A pair of lungs on either side of heart in the thoracic cavity are the respiratory organs.
- At its lower end, the trachea bifurcates into a pair of primary bronchi which enters the right and left lungs. The left and right bronchi further branches off into smaller secondary bronchi and then into many smaller tertiary bronchi.
- They continue branching and finally, tiny terminal bronchioles develop which conduct air to the alveoli of the lungs.
- Diaphragm is a dome-shaped muscular partition separating the thorax from the abdomen. It contributes in breathing by expanding and contracting the thoracic cavity and consequently, the lungs.
