If the number of electrons in a neutral atom is 6 and the number of neutrons is 8. Then the atomic mass of that element will be ___.

A.

6 u

B.

8 u

C.

12 u

D.

14 u

Right Answer is: D

SOLUTION

Given, number of electrons = 6 and number of neutrons = 8

Atomic mass = no. of protons + number of neutrons.

We know that in a neutral atom, the number of protons =  number of electrons

the no. of protons in the given atom = 6

So, atomic mass= 6 + 8 = 14
