Different types of planes are:
1. Reference plane: In general, two planes are employed for projection and are known as reference planes or principal planes of projection. These planes intersect at a right angle to each other.
2. Vertical plane (V.P.): The plane which is vertical is called the vertical plane and is denoted by V.P. Vertical plane is also known as the frontal plane since the front view is projected on this plane.
3. Horizontal plane (H.P.): The plane which is horizontal but at a right angle to the VP. is called the horizontal plane.
4. Auxiliary plane (A.P.): Any other plane, placed at any angles to the principal planes, is called the auxiliary plane.
