  • In the case of the Tension test of mild steel, the actual stress-strain curve lies above the engineering stress-strain curve.
  • In the case of the Compression test of mild steel, the actual stress-strain curve lies below the engineering stress-strain curve.
  • In both cases, i.e. in tension and compression test, the slope of the stress-strain diagram is nearly equal and hence Young’s modulus can be taken as same for mild steel.
