Right Answer is: D

SOLUTION

Faulting is caused due to tensional forces. As the force of tension increases in the earth's crust, a stage comes when the rock strata cannot withstand the force and the crust breaks. Consequently, one side of the rock strata moves up or along a plane of fracture. The California earthquake of 1906 is considered as one of the significant earthquakes as it ruptured the northernmost 296 miles of the San Andreas fault between San Juan Bautista and Cape Mendocino.

Volcanic activity is a major cause of the earthquakes. Vulcanicity and seismic events are so associated with each other that they become cause and effect for each other. Similarly, the Krakatoa volcanic eruption of 1883 led to the emergence of the earthquake and it was caused as a result of the collision between the Indo-Australian Plate and the Asian Plate.

The 1931 Greece Earthquake was a direct consequence of the Hydrostatic pressure and the anthropogenic causes. The construction of the Marathon Dam led to the occurrence of this earthquake.

The 2001 earthquake, also known as the Bhuj Earthquake which struck with an intensity of 7.9 was a direct result of the continental collision between the Indian and the Eurasian Plate. It was an intraplate earthquake, which means it occurred within a plate boundary. The earthquake did a substantial damage.

Thus, the correct answer is D.
