  • Samudra Shakti exercise is held between the Indian Navy and the Indonesian Navy.
  • Recently, this exercise was conducted using anti-submarine warfare corvette INS Kamorta (Indian Naval Ship) along with KRI Usman Harun (Indonesia naval warship), a multi-role corvette, in the Bay of Bengal as part of the 2nd edition of Samudra Shakti.
  • The 1st edition of the exercise took place in 2018 in the Java Sea
  • This exercise is conducted in two phases i.e Sea phase and Harbour phase.
    • Harbour Phase: The Harbour Phase includes activities such as cross deck visits, simulator drills, professional interactions in the form of Subject Matter Exchanges of the Expert (SMEE), sports fixtures, planning conferences, and social interactions, etc. 
    • Sea Phase: The Sea Phase includes manoeuvres, Surface Warfare exercises, Air Defence exercises, Weapons firing drills, Helicopter Operations, and Boarding Operations.

 

  • Aim of the exercise: To strengthen bilateral relations, enhance the interoperability, expand the maritime cooperation, and also exchange the best available practices.
