The total distance is increased by 25%. Ship C takes approximatel

Direction: Study the given line graph and pie chart carefully and answer the following questions accordingly.

Line graph shows the speeds (in km/h) of five different ships in a river and the speed of the water (in km/h) and pie chart shows the percentage of distance (in %) travelled by all the five ships

Note: The total distance is 3000 km.

Question 1: The total distance is increased by 25%. Ship C takes approximately _______ hours more to cover new distance upstream than the time taken by ship A to cover the original distance downstream.(Approx)

A. 17 hours

B. 15 hours

C. 31 hours

D. 21 hours

E. None of these

Right Answer is: A

SOLUTION

New Distance = 3000 × 125% = 3750 km

Time taken by ship C to cover new distance (upstream) = (3750 × 20%)/24= 750/24 hours = 31.25 hours

Time taken by ship A to cover old distance (downstream) = 750/54 = 125/9 hours = 13.89 hours

∴ Required difference = 31.25 - 13.89 = 17.36 ≈ 17 hours
