| What is the effect on the capacitance value if the dielectric constant of the material of the capacitor is increased?

A. Capacitance value increases

B. Capacitance value decreases

C. Capacitance value remains same

D. Capacitance value becomes zero

Please scroll down to see the correct answer and solution guide.

Right Answer is: A

SOLUTION

Capacitor consists of two plates of a conductor and a dielectric insulator between them

\(C = \frac{{\epsilon A}}{d}\)

Where

C = capacitance in farads

ϵ = Permittivity of dielectric

A = area of plate overlap in square meters

d = distance between plates in meters

C ∝ dielectric constant

If the dielectric constant of the material of the capacitor is increased, then the value of capacitance also increases.
