Carbon dioxide is the one which causes global warming. Hence, option D is correct. About 75% of the solar energy reaching the earth is absorbed by the earth’s surface, the rest of the heat radiate back to the atmosphere. Some of the heat is trapped by greenhouse gases as carbon dioxide which is released by various human activities.

The major greenhouse gases are water vapour which causes about 36–70% of the greenhouse effect, Carbon Dioxide (CO2) which causes 9–26%, Methane (CH4) which causes 4–9% and Ozone (O3) which causes 3–7%.
