SOLUTION

In mitochondria, pyruvic acid (formed during glycolysis in cytosol) undergoes oxidative decarboxylation, i.e. removal of CO2 in aerobic conditions.
The enzyme pyruvic acid dehydrogenase, found in the mitochondrial matrix, catlyses this reaction and results in the formation of a key compound, i.e. acetyl CoA.  
Besides acetyl Co-A, CO2 and NADH+H+ are also formed by this process.
